What’s happening with the “OC” in 2008?
The Overseas Club (“OC”) is a social support group made up of teachers from around the world in Melbourne, Australia. We plan weekend getaways, gatherings in the city, and more. It is a great way to meet teachers like yourself, and the “OC” can also help with those tough homesick days. Leading Out also provides the “OC” with updates on events and activities happening in and around the city so you don’t miss out on anything!
August: Scienceworks and Footy!

Scienceworks was great and we got in for free with our VIT registration!. We then met a larger group of OC teachers at the Dome to watch Aussie Rules Football! We were happy to see St.Kilda win (well most of us!)
July: Canada Day and Welcoming!

The OC club celebrated Canada Day with Canadian Trivia, appetizers, dinner, and drinks in the city. We also welcomed all of our new teachers who arrived in July!
June: Sovereign Hill (Gold Mine)

The OC club was off on a road trip to Ballarat to explore the gold mines! We had gold fever and some of us even found gold! So many activities including gold panning, candy making, and mine touring on a glorious sunny winters day!
May: Footy & Welcome/Farewell Dinner

A big welcome to our student teacher Jeff, and a sad farewell to Becky. We had a good feast before heading to the footy to watch a very close match at the Dome.
April: Grampians National Park Weekend Getaway

Hiking, tasting wines, watching the wildlife, playing games, and eating great food best sums up our weekend getaway to the Grampians. Our cabins were nestled into the countryside with kangaroos and possums wandering through. We even had some emus just down the road. We can’t forget our game of Canadaopoly or our shopping spree in Halls Gap! Great way to spend the long weekend.
March: Moomba Festival

Moomba festival was a hit! We explored the carnival with some being brave enough to go on the “Slingshot” ride! We also watched the fireworks from the banks of the Yarra river right in the heart of the city!
February: Drinks in the City

The weather caused the cancellation of our outdoor movie in the Royal Botanical Gardens, but we took cover and all enjoyed drinks and a few games of pool the city. It was a great chance for everyone to meet and get to know each other.
